SMART MEDIA – Fake Photos

Do you ever wish that you could be in some far away place, or visiting your favourite planet – or be in your favourite movie?

Well today in our Cybersmart Lesson, we were able to do just that by using remove.bg!

First, Whaea Stacey showed us some pictures and we discussed why they were altered (changed) and how that happened.

We then got to create our own fake pictures. We found a picture we liked and added that onto our slide on our ipad, and then took a picture of ourselves using remove.bg and put our picture on top! It was so much fun!

SMART MEDIA – Fake News

For the past 2 weeks during our cybersmart lessons, we have been learning about Fake News and Pictures and how to spot if things are fake. If things look too good to be true – then they probably are!

We got a change at using Craiyon – a cool AI site that allows you to put in words to create a fake image. We used this to help us come up with a crazy picture and then use that for a fake news article.

SMART MEDIA: Creating Media

This week saw us starting our smart media topic. We learnt about different sites like Chrome Music Lab and Scribble Diffusion to help us create some media.

And here are some of our Scribble Diffusion creations. We really liked this site because it didn’t matter if you weren’t the best drawer, you still got a really cool picture!

Explain Everything

We have been learning how to use Explain Everything. We haven’t long had this app on our iPad’s so we were excited to find out about it.

Last week, we learnt to take photos and how we can edit them. We also learnt how to add text. This week, we learnt about changing backgrounds and adding recording as well as adding audio.

Google Animations

We have been learning to use Google Slides to make animations.

First, we had to come up with a background, that wouldn’t be changing. Then, we added in some pictures and slowly made them move by duplicating the slide and moving one part of the picture.

Scratch Part 2

We got to finish our scratch projects today! We had so much fun creating the projects. When we had finished making our names, we were able to create anything we wanted.

Whaea Stacey then showed everyone how to take a screen recording on our iPads. We did this so that we could send our videos home through seesaw to our parents.

Matariki

SOUP
Yesterday, Mrs McDonald asked us all to bring in some vegetables because today we were going to be making some Matariki Soup!

Some of us had to peel some vegetables and Mrs McDonald cut our vegetables up to sizes that were easy to eat! We put the vegetables into 3 pots (2 were medium sized and one was HUUUUUUGGGGEEE!!)

It took about an hour and a half for the soup to cook.

While the soup was cooking, we set the tables up; we had to make sure everyone had a spoon (on the right hand side) and a bowl.

When we were eating, we also had some bread which could dip into our soup. It was so yummy that half of us (and room 7) had a second bowl! Mrs McDonald even took some over to our principal, Mrs Morresey, and she wanted to know the secret recipe!

TRINKET BOWLS
We have also been making some trinket bowls using airdry clay. We shaped our dishes using a fork, paintbrush and toothbrush. We also painted them in a beautiful green, and used another paintbrush to draw thin black lines. When our leaf or fish hook has dried we will put some PVA glue on it to help seal it and make it shiny!

These are going to go into our art exhibition which we are holding at school on Matariki for everyone to come and see.

STARS
We also made Matariki stars; we had to research about each of the nine Matariki stars to colour in and decorate so we knew which star represents and what their names are!

Digital Island Footprint

Today in our Cybersmart lesson with Whaea Stacey we learnt about footprints!

We discussed that real footprints can disappear from sun, snow, wind or water; but, digital footprints are permanent. We talked about we can’t always erase footprints so we need to be careful with what we put online. We need to be Cybersmart! We need to keep our private information private.

We then talked about our digital history and what websites we use at school (in the island) and some sites we use at home (out of our island).

Staying Safe Online

Today we learnt about being Cybersmart with our personal and private information.

We learnt that it is OK to share: what we enjoy doing, what sports we play, some of our favourite things, our first name only and our pets name. This information is called personal information.

We learnt that we should keep our private information private. Some things that are private information are: our last name, phone numbers, addresses, number plates and  our school uniform logo.

 

Today was our first cybersmart lesson with Whaea Stacey. She will be in every week for the rest of the year!
